The Maple Street Co-op

Charlotte Fogarty Henderson

Growing up in Maleny, the Co-op has always been a part of my life.

I spent part of my childhood selling drawings on the front steps of the Upfront Club for ‘any money except 5 cents’ and singing the saddle club theme tune. Mum also worked at the Co-op for a stint and I used to come and visit my friend Rose while she did packing. I landed my own after school packing job in 2010, some other stuff happened in between, and then in 2020, I became a shop manager.

Having qualified practitioners (nutritionists, naturopaths) on staff is a huge benefit to our community. Some of our staff have three degrees and choose to work in our shop, I reckon that’s pretty special.

It’s important that we can supply our community with the best quality, nutritious food available. I like being able to support and build relationships with our organic farmers. I enjoy learning how they care for the land away from conventional agriculture practices, which are unsustainable for the future of the planet.

I feel good shopping at the co-op and knowing my money is not going into the pockets of rich dudes. We have customers that drive all the way from the coast, Brisbane and Blackbutt to shop here and we’ve had people tell me they’re moving to Maleny because they want toast, Brisbane and Blackbutt to shop here and we’ve had people tell me they’re moving to Maleny because they want to shop at the Co-op. Thanks for supporting a community owned business and keeping us in the job!
